Just the other week I surfing Mijune’s official website for the low down on a new restaurant opening in Vancouver. After DROOLING over countless photos and videos of where to eat in the city, I decided I had to call Mijune down to the Cafe Pacifica Restaurant (located in the Pan Pacific Vancouver) to have her sample our full menu and meet our Chefs Team.

What I really admire about Mijune’s profile, is that she’s always honest about her reviews and isn’t scared to tell her fans when she doesn’t like a certain dish or flavor….so I knew this would be interesting!

Recently she stopped by the Pan Pacific Vancouver and told us a little bit about herself, her passion and the music industry in British Columbia. She also gave us a little taste of her amazing voice and guitar skills!

Tom was recently given a grim prognosis. He was diagnosed with a fatal disease, ALS, (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) which kills most patients within 3 – 5 years.

Despite being diagnosed with a rapidly progressive form of ALS, Higgins is not giving up on life.

There was a moment when the likelihood of his impending death overwhelmed Tom Higgins, but almost entirely ever since he has just continued smiling.

His daughter Sonya recently told us and the media that his dream was to watch the Boston Bruins play in a live game, but with the high demand for Finals tickets he would have to wait until next season. After Game 5 of the Finals, a relative with connections read the article and managed to secure tickets for her Dad if there was a Game 7 in Vancouver.

The whole family was on eggshells for a few days, waiting to see if Boston would win Game 6 on Monday night, so there would be a Game 7 for Dad to go see. Thank goodness they came through. At 6:30am Newfoundland time on Tuesday morning, my father began his long journey to Vancouver for the first time in his life and arrived in his hotel room.

Upon arrival to the city, the Pan Pacific Vancouver was honored to host Tom for 4 nights at the Hotel. On game night, the disease again was taking its toll on Tom; but after relaxing a few hours before the game he was ready for one of the highlights of his life – a chance to see his beloved Bruins play for the Cup.

In the end, he was one of the lucky Boston fans to witness his team hoist the Stanley Cup in front of his eyes. To sweeten the deal, he was also introduced to his favorite hockey personality – Don Cherry of CBC Hockey Night in Canada.

After the game he told reporters:

I am very emotional right now. It was something I hoped for for a long time. It was just amazing. A dream come true.

The celebration actually marked their second wedding as the couple recently exchanged vows in a smaller civil ceremony held on March 31 in Luisana’s native Argentina.

On Friday night, over 500 guests attended the event in Michael’s home town Vancouver including close family, friends and celebrity guests. A tribute to the couple was presented by Red Robinson as well as a hilarious roasting by comedian Russell Peters which left many of the guests in tears. The party went till the wee’ hours of the morning and was reported by many as one they will never forget.

Once Michael and Lu arrived at the Hotel, they were immediately taken up for photographs before Michael rushed to his room to catch the opening period of the Canucks game, being the die hard fan that he is. He even made a special request to have a few extra big screen TV’s be set up around the room during the ceremony so he could keep his eyes on the game.

Upon arrival, the Pan Pacific’s wedding staff surprised the couple with two Canucks jerseys and a special greeting dessert.

Pan Pacific Pastry Chef Hans Pirhofer created a hockey themed dessert platter made entirely from chocolate.

The Perfect Wedding

What was most impressive about the evening was the decore setup by Sandy Godfree of Art of the Party Design and Decor.

Inspired by elegance and modern design, (as well as a few ideas from Michael’s family), Sandy created a white “Holywood” themed look with a beautiful bouquet in the center (with over 250 pink and red roses).

Michale’s Mom, Amber Bublé had this to say about the decore:

I wanted the environment to feel like old time Hollywood — maybe like I imagine a party after the Oscars in the forties. We made the room totally white with white silk walls, which couches, white framed mirrors, white wide screen TV’s and little mirrored tables everywhere.

In the end, Michael gave a touching toast to his wife in Spanish, which was then translated to the crowd. It was a truly romantic moment and a fitting end to the perfect night.

Yesterday, I got a chance to catch up with him before he left for a flight back home to his native Toronto, Ontario. Drake was a humble guest who raved about the city of Vancouver and its friendly people.

Drake was also recently in Vancouver a few weeks ago, performing on tour for his award winning album, Thank Me Later.

The Canada Team has been staying at the Pan Pacific Vancouver and earlier this afternoon I got a chance to hang out with the squad before they sat down for lunch.

Tonight’s exhibition is in preparation for the FIBA World Championships in Turkey from Aug 28 – Sept 12.  Tomorrow morning the team will fly back to Toronto where they will play Team France on Thursday at the Air Canada Center.

At the 2010 Winter Olympic Games Alex became the first Canadian ever to earn a gold medal on Canadian soil.  It was a boisterous homecoming with Alex arriving at the Pan Pacific in the midst of Canada Place’s gigantic Canada Day celebration around 7pm on July 1.

We had the chance to have a drink with Alex in the Cascades Lounge before he enjoyed dinner from Cafe Pacifica with a friend.  Then it was time for the big fireworks show with panoramic views of the harbour, enthusiastic crowds and of course the vibrant bursts of a massive fireworks display.
